Desert Dogs
Zeena & Zeus
1/26/05 Zeena is safe and happy in foster care and Zeus has found his forever home with the aussielads!
7/12/04 These precious Self Blue Merle (no copper) babies were left in the desert with a basket of food and water in a moldy bucket! There were found by a couple hiking on Saturday. The couple had been desperately trying to find a rescue to take them or they would have to be turned over to the pound on Monday morning. We got a call yesterday and agree to take them in. They appear to be mother and son, the little boy (Zeus) is just about 10 months old. Mom (Zeena) is around 4 and is limping badly on her right front leg.
While we normally only rescue Lethals, we could not let these babies endure anymore than they already have. They are both pretty skinny and scared, but are real sweethearts. Zeus LOVES to give kisses and his tail never stops wagging :-)
I believe that after a few days of rest and some decent food, their personalities are starting to show. Zeena is still quite the little lady and very tolerant of Zeus, the typical Aussie puppy! They enjoy chasing each other around in the yard or "bed wrestling", if it's too hot outside. Although Zeena has difficulty walking on her right leg, she seems to run through the yard with no problem. Zeus loves playing with toys, the more the better. He got a sudden burst of energy last night, deciding to play well past midnight, at which time I decided that I would see how he did being crated :-) He "complained" for a few minutes, but quickly settled down for the night.
